With the current focus on both Asbestos and Silica, Absafe have taken the initiative in providing support to our customers for all their requirements in order to comply with the current Respiratory Standard AS/NZS 1715 Standard, selection, use, care and maintenance of respiratory protection.
When respiratory protection is required as per the standard, a written respiratory protection program should be established.
That means the designated program administrator must oversee the following:
- Assessment of exposure to airborne contaminants.
- Selection of appropriate respirators.
- Evaluation of employees’ health to make sure they can wear a respirator.
- Fit-testing and training of employees regularly.
- Inspection, repair, cleaning, storage and replacement of respirators as needed.
- Review of the program periodically to make sure it’s being run properly.
- Keeping a written record of all of the above.
In addition, training needs to be ongoing to create good habits including the importance of hygiene, your training can be annually or more regular depending on your specific requirements to include.
Note: Fit testing is required for all negative pressure respirators, when the user is not clean shaved and has a beard, the alternative solution is a Power Air Respirator which does not require fit testing. Absafe provide a comprehensive range of Powered Air and Positive Pressure Respiratory.
